The West Coast psyche experimentalists Blade Of Grass are surging back to our ears, bringing with them a fascinating EP due in August. The as yet untitled EP will feature 5 tracks, 2 of which are still in the recording process. The remaining 3 however are ready and sitting patiently on the windowsill, wafting gorgeous scents under our noses like a pristine apple pie.
‘Haven’t Slept For Days’ is one those tracks. It whirls, it swells and it shimmers. Each synth builds a kooky and groovy atmosphere that’s somehow kind of distant too, forming a synergy with the tittle. ‘The Day Will Come’ is another track that is sitting ready. It is dark and ominous, giving off a feeling that it should only be listened to in the dark. It is also bare, the duo have really opened themselves up in this song allowing the focus of the track to be heavily settled on the vocals. The gentle plod of the track then builds up its momentum, forcing you to jump into the abyss as the track concludes.
Now, if you do not get the urge to sing at the top of your lungs to the next track I don’t think you are functioning properly. The passion that ‘She Was’ features is irresistible, addictive even. The vocals move with force, the electronics waver in a silver light and there is an underlying darkness that is somehow eased with each choral howl. This song is a pure masterpiece.
