Single Review: Low Blows // Subversive

Low Blows is Carlos Vergara, former member of the Chilean post-punk band Federación de Boxeo and founder bassist of the Darkwave band This Co. Last year saw him release post-punk album ‘Holes To Fill’ whilst this year reveals successor, ‘Flesh’. Out of those six tracks, including the electronically fused ‘Low’ and husky ‘Get Some Sun’,  one really sticks out to us – ‘Subversive’.

The dark, brooding track encapsulates the solemn mood of the 80’s giants like Joy Division whilst  dripping it in the modern era – there’s something fresher about this track that makes it all the more alluring. Low Blows’ melancholy lyrics also add the air of intrigue. They’re darker than most lyrics in the charts now, offering a reality hit to those who, like me, are “living maybe a waste of time“.

‘Subversive’ is taken from Low Blows’ latest album ‘Flesh’, out now.
